Raw files
How files.obelism.studio serves original files exactly as uploaded, protected by default, to signed-in members and through signed links that last minutes.
Every file in media has a raw URL on files.obelism.studio: the original, exactly as uploaded, transformed by nothing. An original is full size and keeps its metadata (location, camera, author), so it is protected by default.
https://files.obelism.studio/{key}{key} is a random 26-character id of the file's own. It isn't the file's id (which Content's public image URLs show), and names no Organization, Space, folder or file name, so the URL says nothing about whose file it is. The file name comes back in the response's Content-Disposition.
Who gets the file
A raw URL answers only:
- A member of the file's Space, signed in on www, with any role. This is what Open original in the library does.
- A signed link:
?expires=…&signature=…, handed out for 15 minutes. Content's image URLs, the Shopify import and an agent'sgetFile(originalUrl) get one. - A share, through its own page at
files.obelism.studio/s/{key}, with its password. See shares.
Anyone else gets 404 Not found, the same answer as for a key that doesn't exist.
Caching and ranges
- Nothing on files.obelism.studio is cached publicly. A member's browser may keep its copy for an hour; a signed link's response until the link expires.
- Responses carry an
ETag; a matchingIf-None-Matchgets304 Not Modified. - A
Range: bytes=…request gets206 Partial Content, so video can be seeked.
Opened directly
Only types a browser shows passively open in the browser: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP and AVIF images, PDF, and common video and audio. Everything else, SVG and HTML included, downloads, so nothing uploaded can run as a page.
When the URL changes
Replacing a file gives it a new key: the old raw URL stops answering. Moving a file or changing its details doesn't.
Sites never link raw files. They use Content's optimized URLs: see files in Content.
