Shares

Share original files or a whole folder with people outside your Organization through a password-protected link, open a week by default and a month at most.

A share is a link that opens files to people outside your Organization: a photographer's client, a printer, a press contact. It has a password and a window: it opens nothing before the window starts or after it ends, even with the right password.

Creating and ending shares takes an admin, developer or editor role in the Space.

Creating one

  • Share in a file's details shares that file.
  • Share folder shares the folder you have open, with the folders inside it. Files added to the folder while the share is open are in it too.
  • New share on the Shares page asks first what to share: a folder, or files found by name.

Then set:

  • Opens and Ends: from now until a week from now, unless you change it. A share is open for a month at most.
  • Password: type one of at least 8 characters, or Make up a password.

Create link answers the link (https://files.obelism.studio/s/…) and the password. Send them separately. The password is stored as a hash and isn't shown again.

A share holds up to 100 files when you pick them; a folder's share has no such limit.

What the recipient sees

The link asks for the password. The right one opens a page listing the share's files, to open or download one at a time, or Download all as a zip (up to about 4 GB; past that, one at a time). These are the original files, exactly as uploaded.

The browser remembers the password for that share until its window closes. Wrong passwords are limited, per share and per address, to 10 a minute.

Managing shares

Shares in the sidebar lists the Space's shares, Active (open or scheduled) and Ended apart: what they hold, their link, when they end, how often they were opened and who made them. Shares in a file's details lists the shares that hold that file.

An active share's menu copies its link, and:

  • Change end date ends it earlier, never later.
  • End now ends it at once: its link and password stop opening anything.

A share can't be extended; for more time, make a new share with a new password.

Scribes marked doubtful lines in the margin. That practice is called obelism.
