Uploads
How Obelism media uploads files of any size in parts, where they land, and the size limits for replacing a file, importing from a URL and agent uploads.
Choose Upload in the library, or drop files on it. Uploading takes an admin, developer or editor role in the Space.
Where a file lands
In the folder you have open, unless one of the Space's upload rules matches its name: then it goes to the rule's folder (made when missing) and gets the rule's tags. When a rule matches any of the files you drop, the library shows where each will go first, and uploads once you confirm.
In parts
The library sends every file in parts of 10 MB, straight to storage, three files at a time, so one large video doesn't hold up the rest. A part that fails is sent once more; if it fails again, that file's upload is cancelled and nothing is kept. A file only appears in the library once all its parts are in.
That makes large files work: video, print files, raw photos. A file goes up in at most 10,000 parts, so up to about 100 GB.
A file needs a name with an extension (photo.jpg). The name is made safe for URLs: spaces and special characters become -.
Size limits
| How a file comes in | At most |
|---|---|
| Uploading in the library | About 100 GB (10,000 parts) |
| Replacing a file | 50 MB, or 100 MB for a video |
| A row of a CSV import | 50 MB |
An agent's uploadFile, from a URL | 50 MB |
Imports and uploadFile fetch the file from an https URL on a public host, and refuse it when its bytes aren't the type the URL claims. A larger file is uploaded in the library.
After the upload
- An image gets its width and height measured.
- With a Shopify store connected and its catalog indexed, a new image is looked at for the store's products: see suggestions.
